Crime and Policing Bill

Feb 25, 2025 | General

I welcome the introduction of the Government’s Crime and Policing Bill to Parliament today, which includes measures to tackle the dangerous use of off-road bikes.
In December, I introduced a private members’ bill – the Off-road Bikes (Police Powers) Bill – to give police greater powers over seizing these vehicles if used in an illegal or anti-social way.
I am therefore pleased that the Government’s Crime and Policing Bill will make it easier for police to seize off-road bikes used in this way, by removing the requirement to give a warning beforehand.
I also welcome that the Bill gives police the power to search a property for geolocated stolen items – including vehicles – without a warrant.
I will follow the progress of this Bill closely and continue to support the police in their efforts to crack down on the scourge of anti-social off-road bike use, which inflicts misery on my constituents and communities across the country.
